The South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH) in collaboration with Industry experts and market leaders organized the virtual South Asia Energy Series – Energy Data Analytics for Decision Making in Power Sector, on November 29, 2023, from 2 PM to 4 PM IST.
SAREH operates under USAID’s South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP), facilitating coordination and communication of USAID’s Clean EDGE Asia activities. South Asia Energy Series is a set of SAREH’s quarterly virtual learning sessions designed to promote knowledge sharing and education on significant issues associated with the transition to sustainable energy in South Asia. The session provided insights from the viewpoints of electricity generators, power traders, distribution entities, and system operators, highlighting practical business scenarios that demonstrate how analytics can be used as a tool to attain operational excellence and devise effective business strategies.
As the world accelerates towards a more decarbonized and sustainable future, the power sector is undergoing a profound transformation. Data sciences are now pivotal in devising and executing strategies aimed at optimizing energy utilization, reducing carbon footprint, and expediting the adoption of clean and renewable energy. This Energy Series, themed around the application of data science in the power sector aimed to advocate the adoption of data science in the South Asian power sector, enabling businesses to attain operational excellence and make well-informed decisions.
The energy series webinar event featured data analytics expert practitioners from PTC India (a leading power trader in the region) and BSES (a leading private power distribution entity in India) shared the perspective of Power trader and distribution entity in the areas of trading, market data analysis, demand assessment, supply side projections, usage of tools/technology, practice business case, etc.
Participants from the South Asian region gained insights into contemporary trends encompassing data collection, processing, and advanced analytical tools and technologies. This knowledge will empower them to tackle intricate issues, conduct scenario analyses, and make informed decisions regarding various aspects of the power sector, including electricity system operations, generation forecasting, market dynamics, and management.
The event also included an interactive knowledge assessment round followed by a Q&A session. There were 226 attendees during the live session.
