SAREP Launches InvIT Handbook

InvIT-handbook-SAREP

To mobilize finances for clean-energy transition SAREP has identified several innovative financing instruments, including the Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs). InvITs promote capital recycling over short intervals and facilitate reinvestment in new/greenfield projects. Such capital recycling will help developers and financial institutions reinvest and finance more greenfield projects.

To achieve this, SAREP has developed an InvIT handbook, a knowledge product to help project developers and financial institutions understand the benefits and regulatory requirements of InvITs and provide them with a step-by-step guide for issuing InvITs. SAREP also organized a workshop for leading project developers, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), investors, banks/financial institutions, and bilateral/multilateral development organizations on enabling the use of InvITs for the clean energy sector.

This handbook was launched, in partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, on June 3, 2022, at the India

Habitat Center in New Delhi, at a workshop titled ‘Enabling the Use of InvITs for Clean Energy Transition in India.’

The workshop aimed to highlight InvITs as an innovative financial instrument to facilitate the growth of renewable energy in India and to launch the handbook as a SAREP knowledge product among targeted stakeholders.

The event hosted speakers from various government and private bodies with technical, legal, and regulatory experience in InvITs, and those who are key players in India’s clean energy transition.

Speakers on the panel included experts associated with InvITs and their execution in India. The audience got the opportunity to hear first-person accounts of regulatory and other challenges associated with InvITs in the clean energy sector. Organizing this workshop and bringing together these panelists reinforced SAREP’s position as a thought leader in the renewable energy space.
