SAREP activities under this intervention focus on electric vehicles and green hydrogen, both of which can enable deeper decarbonization.
SAREP activities on electric vehicles include conceptualization of a line of credit or constitution of a dedicated institution for financing EVs, in collaboration with India’s Niti Aayog. SAREP is preparing a business plan and model towards the initiative.
SAREP activities on green hydrogen focus on developing enabling policies and regulations at the state level and working with partner organizations on technology evaluation, technical and commercial feasibility assessments, procurement, and capacity building in all areas. Considering the need to develop capacity of key stakeholders from South Asia, SAREP recently launched a capacity-building series “South Asia Energy Master Class.” The first program under the series was on “Green Hydrogen” and was conducted from March 8-11, 2022.
The masterclass was co-organized by USAID’s South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH) and South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP), with Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ), India, as the training partner. It included sessions on the fundamentals of hydrogen, introduction to technology and applications, coupling with renewables, economics, and global standards and policies.
