The second part of the Power Market Series titled “Powering Up: The Role of Over-The-Counter (OTC) Trading in the Electricity Market” successfully concluded on September 19. Organized by USAID’s South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH), the webinar featured discussions on the operationalization of OTC contracts, the role of OTC platforms, and data analytics services, drawing in over 100 participants from 23 countries.
In the first technical session, Saint Achyutananda, Head of Utilities Marketing, and Saurabh Agrawal, Group Head of Operations from Tata Power Trading, provided detailed insights into OTC trading through licensed traders, focusing on operational aspects such as scheduling, energy accounting, and billing—key functions that ensure the smooth execution of OTC contracts.
The next session was led by Ashish Shrivastav, VP & Head of BD, and Sahil Kapoor, Sr. Manager (Operations) from New Age Markets in Electricity Private Limited (NAME). Their presentation provided a comprehensive overview of OTC platforms, highlighting their dual role as energy service providers and advanced data analytics providers. The session also drew on international case studies, showcasing the benefits and future possibilities for OTC markets in India and South Asia, with a strong focus on customer experiences.
In the final session, Victor Vanya, Director, EMA Solutions discussed the significance of energy data analytics for market participants. He emphasized the need for key data services in the power sector and the value of detailed and timely daily, weekly, and monthly reports that help participants stay informed and make data-driven decisions.
Part II of the series concluded with Q&A and feedback from the participants marking another successful milestone in exploring the potential of OTC markets.
