India will require investments of over US$500 billion over the next 10 years to achieve its RE capacity-addition target of 500 GW by 2030. Similarly, as other SA countries transition to RE and accelerate their electrification efforts to reach 100% of the population, substantial investments will be required over the coming years.
The growth of clean energy envisaged in South Asia over the next decade is ambitious and will require the optimum utilization and expansion of the existing investor pool, and the development of new capital sources. New and innovative financing instruments/structures must be evaluated and adapted to meet required investment targets. SAREP is collaborating with PSUs/private developers, under this intervention, to facilitate adoption of instruments such as InvITs Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) and green bonds, to create precedents for others to follow.
