Campaign

Let’s make 2021 a year of concrete and immediate action on clean energy for the climate. Join us in #PoweringCleanEnergy for Climate Action!
We are in the decade of decisive action against climate change and bold investments in a clean energy future. United States President Joe Biden convened a Virtual Leaders Summit on Climate on April 22 – 23 to which he invited 40 world leaders. The central aim of the Summit was to galvanize efforts by the world’s major economies to keep the goal of keeping global warming at a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius. This September 2021, the United Nations will host a High-level Dialogue on Energy to help mobilize stakeholder consultations and voluntary commitments on energy access, energy transition, technology and innovation, finance and investment, and enabling sustainable development goals (SDGs) through an inclusive and just transition. All milestones on the road to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) this November in Glasgow will set the world on a path to a secure, prosperous, and sustainable future.

During the opening session at the Virtual Leaders, Summit on Climate President Biden said, “You know, those that do take action and make bold investments in their people and clean energy future will win the good jobs of tomorrow, and make their economies more resilient and more competitive.” Clean energy is the elixir to South Asia’s resilient and decarbonized future of universal access and security. We can help reach this goal with the transformative forces of connecting, communicating, sharing, and learning.

What is the campaign about?

Starting today, USAID’s South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH) launches a 10-week campaign Powering Clean Energy for Climate Action. Through this campaign we will spotlight:

  • Who is worst affected by the climate crisis in South Asia?
  • What are the commitments from stakeholders – governments, private sector, donors, research institutions, and civil society on decarbonization?
  • Where are the opportunities for regional integration and technological interventions for secure energy markets?
  • When are the actions concrete and bold in powering clean energy?
  • Why is expanding access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy help create good-paying jobs in a new energy economy?
  • How can net-zero emission be achieved?

Who is the campaign for?

The #PoweringCleanEnergy campaign is for everyone – governments, private sector and businesses, development and financial institutions, energy and climate champions, and citizens. Because everyone deserves a more prosperous economy and a healthier, fairer, and cleaner, planet!
