Mobilizing Finance for Smart Meter Program

A key component of RDSS is the Smart Meter National Program (SMNP), which deploys prepaid smart meters across India. This deployment is essential for reducing operational and financial losses of distribution utilities.

The SMNP aims to replace 250 million conventional meters with prepaid smart meters by 2025. SAREP seeks to reduce the financial burden on Discoms by introducing a dedicated line of credit from development finance institutions (DFIs) or other risk mitigation measures to reduce the overall cost of deployment.
