A national workshop was organised on ‘Repowering of Wind Projects in India’ by the USAID South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP) under the U.S.-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership, on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
India’s total installed wind power capacity stood at 41.6 GW as on September 31, 2022. However, most of the wind turbines installed in India till the year 2007 are of sub-MW capacity. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, had issued a policy for Repowering of Wind Power Projects in August 2016. The policy has now been modified and a draft ‘National Repowering Policy for Wind Power Projects, 2022’ has been published by the ministry. The repowering of older and smaller turbines can help harness valuable clean energy source. The workshop aimed to engage industry and government stakeholders on the issue.
The workshop had speakers and attendees from MNRE, government institute, and state electricity regulatory commissions. It also included representatives of wind industry associations, developers, equipment manufacturers, financers, and sector experts who contributed to a holistic discussion on the implementation.
