On September 24, 2020, USAID PACE – D 2.0 RE team, and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), conducted a webinar for a stakeholder consultation on “Implementation Framework for Enhancing Quality and Safety in Solar Rooftop Installations.” The webinar saw participation of around 60 participants, including experts from some leading government and private solar companies, such as, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Amplus Solar, Varp Power, REC Solars, REC Solar, Mahindra, Cleantech Solar, First Solar and Tata Power.
Ms. Julia Kennedy, Director (Acting), Indo-Pacific Office, USAID inaugurated the session, followed by a Special Address by Chief Guest, Dr. Arun Tripathi, Director General, National Institute of Solar Energy. Mr. Anurag Mishra, Sr. Clean Energy Team Leader, CLEEO, USAID then set the context on the quality and safety in Solar PV Rooftop. Mr. Arvind Karandikar, Technical Expert, NREL, delivered a presentation highlighting the key elements and features of a VRF. The presentation was followed by panel discussions.
The webinar witnessed an interactive panel discussion, comprising of a set of DPV experts from Government and Private organizations sharing their views and feedback on the significance of developing and implementing this rating framework. All the panelists congratulated and appreciated USAID PACE -D 2.0 RE and CII for coming together and taking up this important initiative. The panelist appreciated the comprehensive design of the vendor rating framework developed by PACE-D 2.0 RE team. They deliberated that there is a need for a well-structured framework to identify and select the most suitable vendor to offer good quality services and added that quality is important for the comfort of the investors and bankers. As a next step, USAID PACE – D 2.0 RE and CII will develop a concrete framework, based on the recommendations and suggestions in the webinar and the pilot results of the VRF going to be started in the next week.
