Green public procurement is an approach to purchasing goods and services while prioritizing environmental considerations. USAID’s SAREP program organized a regional workshop on February 28, 2024, to explore Green Public Procurement practices and policies. This workshop aimed to steer South Asia towards eco-friendly procurement practices, aligning with the region’s sustainability targets and the global push for environmental conservation.
It brought together public entities from various countries to discuss the integration and scaling of GPP practices, marking a significant step towards a sustainable, low-carbon future. Participants had the opportunity to delve into the complexities of GPP, exchange global best practices, and share country-specific experiences and priorities.
The insights gained from this workshop, along with the ongoing dialogue, will be crucial in developing a comprehensive SPP/GPP work plan for the interested partner entities and their respective countries. This workshop has established a solid foundation for future discussions and has been a significant step towards a collaborative and sustainable procurement strategy in South Asia, setting a clear direction for the necessary work ahead.
This workshop underscores the commitment of USAID’s SAREP and its partners to fostering sustainable procurement practices across the South Asia region.
