The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) organized a virtual joint stakeholder consultation workshop to deliberate on the use cases of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) technologies for making distribution utilities more efficient on 23 November 2021.
AI/ML deployment in Indian power distribution companies (Discoms) is in its initial stages but is poised to modernize the way energy is distributed and consumed. These software solutions have been found to have all-round relevance in areas such as, but not limited to i) fault detection ii) Distribution Transformer (DT) asset management, and iii) predictive theft detection.
USAID’s flagship five-year program, South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP), conducted the workshop. This joint virtual workshop, in collaboration with SAREP, shared the experience of technology providers and implementing agencies involved in deploying AI/ML related grid solutions.
