Objective Lead, Enhancing Regional Energy Markets

Dr. Ajit Kumar is a Gold Medallist from the Delhi Collect of Engineering 1980 Electrical batch. He did his Ph.D. in Management in 2019 and MBA in Finance in 1995 from IGNOU during his professional life.

Dr. Ajit Kumar joined PTC India Limited as Director (Commercial & Operations) in April 2015 and has completed his tenure of six years in April 2021. During his tenure, PTC energy trade volumes increased from 35 BU to 80 BU including cross border energy trades with Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh. He was also Managing Director of PTC Energy Limited and has commissioned green field 300 MW renewable energy projects in PTC Energy, a 100% subsidiary of PTC. He successfully led a team of members from promoter companies of a joint venture promoted by PTC, BSE, and ICICI for the establishment of a Power exchange. He was also a nominee director of PTC on the Board of PTC Financials Ltd, with a loan book size of Rs 12500Cr, and Teesta Urja Limited, a 1200 MW hydropower project of Govt of Sikkim
Before joining PTC, he worked in NTPC for 35 years. During his tenure in NTPC as Executive Director (Commercial), and he was responsible for the sale and realizations of bills of Rs 75000 Cr for 235 BU electricity supplied annually. As head of Business Development, he played a key role in finalizing and signing of various agreements with Bangladesh Power Development Board for establishing a 2×660 MW Thermal Power project in Khulna and with Ceylon Electricity Board for establishing a 2×250 MW Thermal Power project in Trincomalee.

At different Management levels in NTPC, he was responsible for delivering Design & Engineering inputs, Quality Assurance and Inspection Services, Contracts & Procurement , Project management and Site Support for super thermal power projects involving unit sizes of 200 MW, 500 MW, 660 MW & 800 MW. He piloted NTPC foray into nuclear power as Head of Nuclear Power Group & established a JV Company with NPCIL. He also finalised 1000 MW renewable power expansion plans for NTPC.

He has also traveled to many countries for business development, presenting papers in international seminars, and for type/routine testing of equipment sourced from various countries.

He has been regularly training personnel from NTPC and other companies in Power Sector at PMI of NTPC. He is also certified Master Trainer and Lead Assessor form Skill Council of India. He was teaching management and technical students at BIMTECH Gr NOIDA, NPTI Faridabad and CBIP Gurgaon/New Delhi.
