USAID Asia Bureau Assistant Administrator (AA) Michael Schiffer arrived in New Delhi to promote U.S. – India development partnerships, with a focus on clean energy transition and other shared energy efficiency initiatives on January 12 to13, 2023.

AA Michael Schiffer along with USAID Mission Director Veena Reddy and USAID Indo Pacific Office Director John Smith Sreen visited the New Delhi Railway Station to learn more about the incorporated clean energy solutions. They met senior Indian Railways officials, oversaw solar rooftop installations, and acknowledged the energy efficiency measures undertaken. Senior officials of USAID India and South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP) also showcased ways in how they have been supporting Indian Railways in becoming net zero carbon emitter by 2030 with renewable energy interventions.

During the visit, they also went to the EV charging site at the New Delhi office of Energy Efficient Services Limited (EESL) for a better understanding of clean mobility infrastructure and explore new economic opportunities along the value chains for EV Charging. This reaffirmed their support to encourage widespread adoption of clean fuel mobility such as EVs on a large scale.

The Assistant Administrator’s encouraging visit will go a long way in bolstering India’s commitment towards combatting the climate crisis and ushering in stable, renewable energy resources.
