A Project Steering Committee (with sub-committees and task forces) has been constituted consisting of government and private actors for decision making, strategic and operational steering, and establishment of processes. The objective of the steering committee is to support the following purposes
- Look beyond the individual sector approach and recognize the interconnected relationships with other sectors
- Address barriers in enhanced intra-country and inter-country dialogue and cooperation on energy
- Encourage active participation of government, private and non-governmental bodies at national and regional levels
- Actively engage/coordinate with regional associations such as the BIMSTEC, BBIN, SASEC, SAARC
- Support management and operational frameworks for fast-tracking practical action by SA countries
- Support harmonization of domestic policy reforms leading to unification of sector/market at the regional level
- Facilitate consensus-driven cooperation for greater institutionalization and ratification of informal dialogues
- Garner expertise, opinions and strategic advice from relevant stakeholders of these countries
