Support Power Trading Function in BBIN Countries

SAREP supports power-trading between Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal or BBIN countries through the development of market rules and regulations, capacity development, and on-the-job trainings.

A) INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING OF BANGLADESH’S POWER TRADING ENTITY

SAREP, in consultation with Bangladesh stakeholders and other development partners, will assess and enhance the capacity, and capabilities of the existing trading entity/department/cell. The activity will be undertaken in close coordination with USAID’s Bangladesh Advancing Development and Growth through Energy (or BADGE) program and other stakeholders in the country.

B) INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING OF POWER TRADE ENTITY(IES) IN NEPAL

SAREP, in consultation with Nepalese stakeholders and other development partners, will assess and enhance the capacity and capabilities of the existing trading department of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) and the NPTCL. SAREP will carry out these activities with a focus on people, processes, technologies and tools, strategy, and the structure of power-trading entities or functions in Nepal. The activity will be undertaken in close coordination with USAID’s Urja Nepal program along with other stakeholders.
