The Green Hydrogen Sector is seeing transformative growth. However, this burgeoning sector faces a significant challenge: a gap in specialized skills necessary to drive innovation and scale up production. Addressing this challenge, the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ), in collaboration with USAID’s SAREP program, organized a roundtable discussion on February 20, 2024, on “Skill Gap Assessment across Green Hydrogen Sector in India.”
This event marked a critical step forward in bridging skill gaps within the emerging green hydrogen sector. Over 30 high-level representatives from 14 leading organizations across academia, industry, government, and other pivotal sectors united to chart a course toward developing a skilled workforce capable of propelling the green hydrogen industry into the future.
The roundtable spotlighted the pressing need to identify and cultivate key skill sets to enhance hydrogen to meet export-quality standards and boost market promotion efforts. It called on industry leaders to lead the charge in fostering these skills within the Indian ecosystem. The importance of synergies between industry and academia was underscored by a push for launching certified courses tailored for skill enhancement in the green hydrogen sector. These initiatives are expected to lay the groundwork for a well-equipped workforce ready to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities in the green hydrogen landscape, ensuring India’s competitive edge on the global stage.
