USAID through its SAREP Program aims to facilitate targeted action and drive systemic change by supporting key stakeholders on electric mobility initiatives. Moreover, the Government of India (GoI) launched, the Go Electric Campaign in 2021 to create awareness among masses about benefits of switching over to Electric Vehicles (EVs). The objective of this campaign is to create awareness among masses about benefits of switching over to Electric Vehicles (EVs), including various initiatives taken by Centre & State Governments to enhance acceptability of Electric Vehicles, and Electrical Cooking.
To facilitate the adoption of EVs is important for climate action, energy security and fighting air pollution. SAREP recently organised a virtual Capacity Building Workshop for EV Charging Station Deployment Charging Station Assessment Tool (CSAT) Training on August 22, 2023.
SAREP has adopted a data-based approach to prepare a tool to assist state and regional governments to plan their charging station deployment. The CSAT developed by SAREP, helps addressing the key questions in planning EV public charging station such as: Where to install EV chargers in an urban area and how many chargers should be installed? What is the optimal mix of two-wheeler and four-wheeler chargers essential for efficient utilization? How can the priority sites be identified for installing charging stations for higher returns? etc.
SAREP is working closely with a few Indian states and South Asian governments in implementation of their EV policy for rolling out of charging stations and adoption of electric vehicles. This training on the tool’s usage and application to various state government officials will help in accelerating the process. It also showed ways in which CSAT can support states in planning their EV charging infrastructure.
We had 21 representatives from 7 state entities (from MP, Haryana and A&N) joining us for this training session. Such trainings will further help in the adoption of various new initiatives for improving CSAT and catalysing partnerships with South Asian countries like India for accelerating e-mobility deployment.
