The first part of the Master Class on Short Term Power Trade through Power Exchanges – 3 Part Series for regional power sector stakeholders, was held virtually on June 26, 2023 by USAID’s South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH) in collaboration with PTC India. SAREH is the communication and coordination platform of USAID that has been constituted under USAID’s regional energy program, the South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP).
The program seeks to promote market-based trade in the South Asian region and to present stakeholders with a thorough understanding of power exchange-based short-term power trading. The power exchange-based trading will also facilitate the acquiring and selling of electricity at the best possible price.
The master class enhanced the understanding of participants on various products such as Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Real Time Market (RTM), High Price Day-Ahead Market (HP-DAM), Intraday, Day Ahead Contingency, Term Ahead, Certificate Trade. It also included renewable energy products such as Green-Day Ahead Market (G-DAM), Green Term Ahead Market, and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Delivering the welcome address on the occasion, Monali Zeya Hazra, Clean Energy Specialist USAID reiterated how USAID has organized several such initiatives like energy series and master class to build the capacity of the stakeholders in South Asia and help them understand the region better. Hiranmey De, Exec VP, Commercial & Ops, PTC India Ltd., speaking on the occasion highlighted how power trading is important for optimal use of existing resources.
Sudhir Bharti, Vice President, Operations, IEX, highlighted how IEX is facilitating energy transformation by building a sustainable and an energy efficient economy.
The Master Class got an overwhelming response from 280 participants in 13 countries representing 150 organizations comprising government departments, research and academia, and training institutions.
